As part of the ODU Agency Program, our second assignment was to build an engaging, intuitive, simple, and responsive website for our agency. This website was to be used to introduce us to our real-world client.
Building the website was a real group effort and a fantastic learning opportunity. We were able to delve into WordPress and get hands-on experience with many different plug-ins and widgets. We were also able to do some problem solving through custom CSS and HTML.
For my portion of the website, I was responsible for creating our “Who We Are” page. After collecting photos and bios of team members, I loaded all the information onto the page in an easy-to-follow format. I added a button for each team member that would show a pop-up window with their bio.
I chose to have the pop-up open in a new, smaller window on top of the “Who We Are” page on the site. This allowed the user to easily switch between and learn more about each team member.
In addition to the “Who We Are” page, I partnered with other team members to create additional content for the site. The example below is our “Content Marketing” page with additional info about how the agency can help with your content marketing needs and a clear CTA that will direct the user to our “Contact Us” page.
This project was really fun and also allowed me to get to know my agency members a little more. Having the opportunity to create a functioning WordPress site with the guidance of instructors who have web development experience was really valuable and I was able to put the knowledge I gained to work creating this portfolio site.
While I don’t plan for web development will be my primary career, I will definitely be able to put these skills to work for clients in the future.
